What is a recovery community and why do we think it is important?
A recovery community is a supportive environment which encourages growth and transformation for people facing various challenges, such as substance use, issues around mental and other complex needs.
It provides a place where people can connect with others with shared experience and helps engage them in activities to develop their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Our recovery community will always remain free of judgement and accepts everyone- no matter their history or background.
The Kernow Recovery Community is based around peer support, where out Experts by Experience offer understanding and support based on their own experience of recovery. By creating a union of shared experience and belonging, we aim to develop a community of kindness and growth.
The KRC aims to assist people in their recovery journey to make positive change and to develop new skills. This is done with wellbeing in mind- all physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs considered. We run workshops regularly, where people can build the skills they might need to navigate through difficult times in their lives whilst development friendships with each other. We run activities that develop from suggestions. We have had a photography club, an acoustic jamming session and a games day.
Our hope from the KRC is that people in their recovery journey feel supported and find connection through the recovery community and get the chance to develop themselves and to support each other through friendship, connection and understanding.
